Stucco Changes Through The Years

The lath strips were made of wood installed in a horizontal fashion with spaces to support the wet plaster until it was cured, it was a widely used technique. On exterior walls the lath was installed over a weather-resistant asphalt impregnated paper or felt sheet that protected the frame from moisture.

Lath can be installed over weather-resistant felt or paper that is impregnated with asphalt to protect the structure from getting wet. Corrosion-resistant galvanized wire came into use after the second World War and was used for exterior walls. This method is still used to this day.
