The new Gold Coast Stadium at Carrara (officially known as the Metricon Stadium) recently reopened after its $144 million complete redevelopment, and is now home to new AFL team the Gold Coast Suns.
Compliments from the crowd at the brightly colourful aluminium facade:
An IAAF Athletics field, seating for 25,000 people and the striking new louvre faade are some of the stadium’s most stunning new features.
The red, blue and yellow louvre faade has drawn many positive remarks from the crowds attending games at the stadium, both for its eye-catching colours and its distinctive architectural character.
Resistant to rough and corrosive environment conditions:
The aluminium louvres were pre-coated with a high spec concentrate that prevents corrosion from coming from coastal weather conditions. This coating ensures that the bright colours wont fade away with time and that they won’t need to be repainted every year.
The stadium was engineered with a complete model of aluminium louvres built to withstand Category 3 wind loads. These wind strengths are quite common in Australia’s pacific coast.
Tight timeline for completion of external louvres:
There wasn’t a lot of time to spare for the manufacture and installation of the aluminium louvres, as Lowline’s Operations Director explains…
“Builders and architects wanted to employ a very experience firm to do the renovation, as it needed to be ready before the new AFL season launch. There was a lot of competition, however they choose us because our louvres are of a higher quality and best suited to the project.”
“Altogether, we came up with the concept of the new faade. We had to simplify the design in order to be able to finish on time. Manufacturing and installation process run very smooth and everything was ready before the new games season.”
The redevelopment of the Metricon Stadium will benefit more than just the AFL community. In fact, the entire region will reap the benefits of this world-class new stadium, with music festivals, cricket games and FIFA World Cup matches all taking place in the future.
