There are many different ways to construct a building, all dependent upon your design, budget, and purpose. Structures can be made of metal, wood, plastic, or many other things. The article below will discuss steel buildings and how they vary by type, giving the advantages, disadvantages, and basic structure of each type.
The Quonset Hut
This is the most basic steel structure, and the least expensive. Having a self supporting design, it does not need any posts or beams on the inside to help support it. The entire building is shaped like an arch in one of two ways. Older ones look like one continuous arch, like a tin can cut in half and turned on its side, and newer ones have vertical walls and an arched top, much like a mailbox. Usually these are ideal for warehouses or crop storage where cosmetics are not important. This type of structure is extremely resilient to not only nature but human tampering. No heavy equipment is needed to put it up, and it is easy to move or take down if you no longer need it. Naturally, it does have disadvantages, in that it cannot get too big or it becomes highly difficult to erect. Also, it tends to be quite unattractive, and since hardly any decorating or customizing can be done to change this it often is not allowed in residential zoned areas.
I-Beam Buildings
Mainly used for industrial buildings, this is the most common type produced. Vertical steel beams form the trusses that hold the building up, and these are in turn supported by horizontal pieces of steel placed between them, shaped like either the letter “c” or “z”. Insulation and sheeting are then added, and doors and windows placed in. This type is quite simple, can be made any size, and does not require a full concrete foundation, making it great for purposes such as a riding arena. It also does not require any interior beams or posts for more support. It can be made in varying colors and interior design can be done to some degree. Its biggest limitation is the shape. It cannot vary much from a standard square or rectangle, and the slope of the roof has to be very light. These limitations often make it difficult to get a permit to erect it in residential areas. Also, a lot of heavy equipment is needed to put it up, which can be a hassle.
A Hybrid Building
This kind is a mix between metal and wood. These are highly customizable when it comes to decoration, making it ideal for buildings such as shops, houses, or churches. It is made with steel trusses, but wooden pieces placed horizontally between them for support. The outer sheeting can be made of virtually any material, including vinyl, brick, or steel. It can be, however, the most expensive kind of building. And its main advantage is the cosmetic freedom, so if you are looking to erect a structure for which that does not matter, you may not want this kind of building. It is also often less energy efficient because of the high sloped ceiling.
As is evident, these styles all contain advantages and disadvantages. If you wish to invest in Future Steel Buildings, make sure you look at why you want it, what your budget is, and your desired location before making a decision.
