Patios can make your yard a great place to gather but you need to maintain it so that people want to use it. When spring is in the air, that is the time to start working on cleaning your patio. Clear all the brush and debris from the winter away and start work in the garden. Your yard or garden is important because it is outside with the patio and the two go hand in hand.
Make sure to wash your patio. Wait for a nice day and use warm water and soap. Don’t saturate the wood though. Water can be one of wood’s most dangerous enemies.
You should look around your patio or deck and see if there has been any damage to it over the winter. Look for cracks, mold, loose nails, and anything else that might need to be repaired. For decks you should look for rotting wood and you need to look under the deck for that. Damage might not be on the visible part of the deck but hidden underneath it.
You don’t have to paint your patio every year, but at some point it is going to require a fresh coat. Steps probably require detail than any other part. They get used the most, after all. A good paint job doesn’t take more than two or three hours and will be well worth it to protect your patio against the elements.
Wash your patio furniture with warm water and look to see that there is not damage or mildew. Your patio furniture may need to be replaced every 3 to 5 years because of the sun and the wear from the elements. When picking your chairs and tables, make sure you choose ones that go with the style of your patio and fit into the overall picture of your back yard.
